Rosary of the Seven
Sorrows (Dolors) of Mary
Devotion to Our Lady’s Sorrows has been part of Catholic Tradition since the beginning of the Church. In fact, St. Alphonsus Liguori described a revelation that St. Elizabeth of Hungary had concerning St. John the Evangelist, to whom she was deeply devoted. Apparently, after Mary was assumed into Heaven, St. John asked Jesus if he could see her one more time. His request was answered and both Mary and Jesus appeared to St. John, where Jesus made several promises to those who honor the Sorrows of His Mother.
However, it was not until the 13th century that this devotion began to flourish. In 1233, our Lady appeared to seven holy, prominent men of Florence, Italy (later canonized in 1888), and asked them to devote themselves to her service. They ultimately left their life in Florence and settled on Mont Senario, where they founded an Order called the Servants of Mary (or Servites), dedicating their lives to penance and prayer, especially meditating on the seven sorrows of Our Lady.

Intro Prayers
Sign of the Cross: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
On the Crucifix: My God, I offer You this Rosary in honor of the seven principal Sorrows of Mary, for Your greatest glory, for my conversion and that of all people through Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, our salvation and our unique way to come to You, in union with the Holy Spirit for ever and ever. Amen!
Act of Contrition: O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended You, and I detest all my sins because of Your just punishments, but most of all because they offend You, my God, Who is all-good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Your grace, to sin no more and to avoid the near occasions of sin. Amen.
